JP Maurice – “Unstoppable”

This ballad by the East Van-based artist gets loud fast! Is that what we have to do to get your attention these days?

JP Maurice dropped his single “Unstoppable” on September 10, 2021.

Maurice appeared here recently, because he produced “Lonely Days” by Adrienne Nye. Now, we get to hear him do his own thing.

According to his Twitter, this song is the second single from an upcoming album titled Pressure Makes Diamonds.

The first one was “The Matador”, and it came out in March 2021:

The East Van-based artist kicks off the single with some low frequencies. It drew me into his voice when he came in for the first verse.

The drums groove along softly in the verses. It reminds me of a band on a big festival stage trying to pace itself through a whole set — you can’t do 100% bangers.

The song gets loud fast! Especially when you feel how soft it starts and how soon it escalates into the chorus. “The Matador” does this too, but not as much.

So, is that what we have to do to get your attention these days?

The choruses have few words — they’re stretched out across the big beats. It’s funny to hear the lyric, “Can’t stop, won’t stop” in this earnest a context. But, then again, the title is “Unstoppable”.

I find the band drops out and end with one voice on a lyric move to be trite, however, here I don’t mind.

Now, what do we know about JP Maurice’s album Pressure Makes Diamonds?

“The Matador” hums along with a kind of “What’s the Buzz” Jesus Christ Superstar energy, so it rocks harder.

But then, this song “Unstoppable” is a nice and dynamic ballad. If I heard it on stage, I’d stick around for the whole set.
