Brian Fraser: Brentwood Presbyterian Church, Jazz Worship

On the Rhythm Changes Podcast, Rev. Dr. Brian Fraser of Brentwood Presbyterian Church talks about the church's role in our jazz community, his life before and around Brentwood, and what is next at the space including major renovation plans.

When I first started the RCP, I wrote down a personal wishlist of whom I most wanted to eventually bring on as guests and Brian's was literally the first name I scribbled. There are but a few people who have honed their perspective on our scene over the decades as he has, including under his non-profit consultancy called Jazzthink – where he identifies as a provocateur. Please enjoy my chat with Brian Fraser.

In addition to their Wednesday night Jazz Evensong series, Brentwood is known as a rehearsal home of big bands. Here are some of them that I've written about previously:

The Dean Thiessen Big Band debut concert
An interview with Dean about his upcoming event in Burnaby
Christopher Berner on his Jazz Orchestra
From an injury, to grad school, to a home among his peers
Isabel Leong on the Ghibli Jazz Orchestra
An interview with Isabel and with bandmate Andrés Coronado
Jennifer Kim and the New Generation Big Band
I first heard Jennifer play upright bass three years ago…

Brentwood's YouTube channel hosts livestreams of each Jazz Evensong as well as Sunday morning worship streams. It has the archive of past events, plus advance links to those coming up next.
